Birth to age 6 - Be Creative @ Your Library
Why reading is important
Research shows that children who are read to early and often will develop stronger language and reading skills that will help them be
successful throughout their lives.
Children build crucial skills when they are read to early. These skills include vocabulary development, ability to understand and follow a story, and word sounds recognition (phonological awareness). When children enter school, reading during the summer helps them be ready for each new school year.
The library’s summer reading program is the easiest and most fun way to get and keep kids ready to learn.
This program is for children ages birth to six years old. Parents and children should read together and log their time. Parents should log the reading time for every 20 minutes of reading on the paper log or online here at the website. Parents and children will earn a certificate of participation for reading up to 600 minutes. Parents and children who read 600 minutes or more will receive a certificate of participation and a book for the child to keep.
