The Storymobile is a specialized bookmobile that serves the pre-school population of Lycoming County.
The goals are:
- Provide library access to a variety of books
- Establish the library habit
- Promote family literacy
- Encourage preschool teachers to read aloud daily
- Support preschool teachers in curriculum development
- Deliver a summer reading incentive program
Visits are made every two weeks to:
Child care centers, traditional preschools, specialized preschools,and private kindergartens.
During the visits, the children use their own library card to borrow two books of their choice. Teachers may borrow unlimited materials. The collection includes paperback picture books, nonfiction paperbacks, magazines for toddlers, and board books for the children. Teachers choose from books, magazines, CDs, curriculum guides, read-a-longs, learning kits, and puppets.
The storyteller reads a selection from the bin of books and media that will be loaned to that site. We primarily visit family day care homes and group day care homes. The summer reading programs is provided to those sites.
An eager group of "storymobile children visit their "Library" on wheels. Learning the value of books and learning at an early age.
