Take advantage of the James V. Brown Library's convenient passport services hours and help
support library programs at the same time.  Monday - Saturday,  10am to 8 pm, Sunday noon to 6pm

Important Passport Information:

  • All passport applicants must apply in person, regardless of age.
  • When a child is under 14, both parents must be present and show identification when applying for their child’s passport. If one parent is unable to come, a notarized Statement of Consent from the absentee parent can be used.
  • Information concerning children under 16
  • Currently, routine passport processing now takes between 4-6 weeks (subject to change).
  • If you need your passport urgently, generally in less than 2 weeks, you should contact one of the Regional Passport Agencies, in New York or Philadelphia.

New - Passport Card – Not for travel by air. Valid for land and sea crossings between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean only. Customers may apply for the Passport Card beginning February 1, 2008, but will not be able to receive the Passport Card until a later date. Therefore, expedited service will not be available at this time. (+) More information

You will need the following:  
  • Two (2) passport photos (please see guidelines)

    In Williamsport, At AAA photos are free for AAA Plus members; $7.42 for standard members; and $15.90 for the general public. CVS-$7.99. Vannucci Photo & Video-$9.95.  Wegman's-$7.99. Walmart-$9.88

  • Passport Application Forms
    You will need the DS-11 form to submit your application. The forms are available at the Library, or you can print them from the Passport Agency website. Be prepared to supply: your Social Security number, your parents’ birth information (even if deceased), and, if you have been married your date of marriage and your current and/or previous spouse’s birth information. Please do not sign the DS-11 form until the Passport Acceptance Agent instructs you to do so. You can fill in your forms online and print them.

    If you have a passport that was issued less than 15 years ago and you were at least 16 years old when it was issued, you may be able to submit a self-service renewal.  Self renewal forms are available at the Library or you can print them from the Passport Agency website. Please see these instructions on the U.S. Passport Agency website. You may also call the National Passport Information Center’s automated line at 1-877-487-2778.
     
  • Proof of Citizenship
    You need either a certified copy of your Birth Certificate issued by the city, county or state of your birth OR a current or previous U.S. Passport OR an original Certificate of Naturalization. Helpful information about how to obtain a certified birth certificate is available on the Internet on the Where to Write for Vital Records webpage at the National Center for Health Statistics. Similar information can be found through the VitalChek Network Inc. website.

    The U.S. Department of State will determine the acceptability of all documents presented. Your original documents will be mailed with your passport application and will be returned with your new passport.
     
  • Proof of Identity
    As proof of identity adults may show one of the following: a previous U.S. passport, a Naturalization Certificate, a current valid U.S. driver’s license, a U.S. state issued identification card, a Military I.D. card, or Government (city, state or federal) issued photo I.D. card.

New Passport Card:

New Passport Card -Adult (age 16 and over) with a fully valid passport = $20

*Payment 1= must be in the form of a check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State.
** Payment 2= Brown Library, Agency Fee
We will accept any of our normal forms of payment for the $30 execution fee (cash, check (payable to James V Brown Library), or Credit Card (MasterCard or VISA).

Customers applying for a passport and passport card are charged only one execution fee

Please note: U.S. Passport fees are standardized. Every passport acceptance agency charges a $25 processing fee.
Both Fees are due at time of application.
